Phase 1 is wrapped up at this Alice Lake build, and here's what we were working with - a new home under construction on a sloped, sandy lot with exposed soil in every direction. That kind of site is a recipe for erosion problems if it's not handled correctly. Bare ground plus grade plus rain equals sediment moving where it shouldn't.

Our job was to get the site cleaned up and stabilized so the build can keep moving without soil loss becoming a headache. That meant yard reshaping to move water in the right direction, seeding the disturbed areas, and covering everything with straw to hold it all in place while the grass establishes. We also ran a rock-lined drainage channel along the property edge to catch and redirect runoff before it causes any real damage. Silt fence went in along the low edges to keep sediment on site.

The rock channel is worth pointing out specifically. On a wooded lakefront lot like this one, you're not just managing runoff for the sake of the lawn - you're protecting the water. Loose construction sediment migrating toward a lake is a problem that's a lot harder to fix after the fact. Getting the drainage right in Phase 1 means Phase 2 starts on solid footing, literally.

This is the kind of site prep work that doesn't always get talked about, but it matters a lot. Good grading and erosion control protect the foundation, protect neighboring properties, and keep the project compliant. We're already looking ahead to Phase 2 as the house gets closer to finished - there's more to come on this one.
